Shakotan Peninsula

Where is most beautiful sea in Hokkaido?
If I asked that, I definitely answer the west side of Shakotan Peninsula. Its blue sea like juwely is called "Shakotan Blue".

There are steep cliffs just beside the sea and they are also highlight of this touring course.

To enjoy the blue sea, I recommend you to go around the peninsula clockwise.
Because you ride on the left side of the road, you can get closer to the beautiful sea than right side.

Cape Kamui

The path to Cape Kamui. No charge, no parking fee is necessary.

This cape is one of the most beautiful place in Hokkaido.

During walking the path to cape Kamui, you will be moved by breathtaking scenery.
You walk on the narrow path surrounded by sea. Both sides are cliffs and there is blue sea under your foot.

When you walk 20 minutes and reach the edge of the cape, you will witness the contrast of a pure blue sky and Shakotan blue sea.

Tomaru Peak

This road crosses the center of Shakotan Peninsula.
There is almost no other traffic on the route, so you can enjoy its twisty mountain road to your heart's content for 30km.

Tomaru peak has a small parking and it's quiet and nice view point.
The juncture to the parking is inside the tunnel, so be careful to cars come from opposite lane.
